The inspiration for this piece was Gyula Pauer’s Pseudo Theory. In these works, Pauer translates real space experience into two dimensions with misleading perfection – in other words, he is stepping through dimensions. The main question of the Pauer Chair is whether the lack of an actual physical body can be replaced by other media – in this case, with a verbal prosthesis. Solely based on the written description, the chair may appear in an infinite number of variations in the viewer’s minds.
